We visited Sydney for three days and saw most of the major sites. Sydney is a wonderful stopover on the way to New Zealand if time is limited. It is a 15 hour flight from Los Angeles. You leave on day one and arrive day three. It is a thousand miles west of New Zealand and a three hour flight to Auckland. Sydney is a major metropolitan city with a population of almost 5 million. The people are very helpful and fun. Sydney offers great public transportation with a beautiful harbor. Activities abound around this harbor.

Although we were only in Sydney three days, we did get to see most of the important places. On the first day, we took a hop on-hop off bus to get our bearings. We stopped at many places including Bondi Beach and ended up at the Fish Market where we had lunch. The fish market is about two square blocks. Happy hour at our boutique hotel, and then dinner on a moored boat in the harbor ended our day. The second day, we walked the downtown area and stopped at Queen Victoria Building, a five-level enclosed mall. We went to the Rocks area. Later that day we jumped on a harbor ferry and sailed by the Sydney Opera House and went to Watson’s Bay where we had lunch. Back to the hotel for happy hour and since it was St. Patrick's Day, we decided to go to Newtown to party with the locals. Fun! Our last day, we took another ferry to Manly, a beach community in the northern part of the harbor. That night we went to see “Barber of Seville” at the Opera House. We felt it was a better idea to see an actual opera rather than just touring the Opera House. It is a splendid structure with wonderful acoustics.
